Tuesday Taste – Hoale Lang Syne

It’s HERE!

In with the new and out with the old? Sometimes new things come with old vendettas.

A deadly game of cat and mouse has made Adam realize someone sees him as the cheese. And that same someone is setting a trap that could put an end to Adam’s love life issues…once and for all.

“Stalked? From one box on your porch you jump right to stalked?” He stepped closer and Adam’s body tilted incrementally toward his, reveling in his delicious heat. “Tell me the rest.”

“It isn’t…”

“Good god, you’re pushy,” Adam groused.

For the first time since he’d arrived on Dirk’s doorstep, his ex-lover appeared on the verge of a smile. “Just tell me the whole story and I won’t have to keep insisting.”

Sighing, Adam lifted his hands in surrender. “Somebody kissed me on New Year’s eve…”

The tender beginnings of Dirk’s smile vanished. “Is that why you broke it off with me?”

“No. Oh god, no. I’m sorry, Dirk. It’s just not that simple.”

“Please! Stop telling me you’re sorry. We’re both sorry.” He flung a hand toward Maddy. “She’s sorry. Walter’s sorry. The whole fucking world is fucking sorry that we broke up. But that doesn’t change the fact that I feel like I’ve been hit by a fucking train, Adam. It doesn’t change the fact that my stomach is so twisted in knots that I can’t eat, I can barely swallow, and forget sleep…” He stopped, his whole body trembling.

Adam lifted a hand in Dirk’s direction and then let it fall, unwilling to touch him for fear if he did there’d be no going back. He’d just pull Dirk into his arms and never let him go again. “I’m so…”

“Oh god, Adam!”

#MySexySaturday Hoale Lang Syne – January 23, 2015!

In with the new and out with the old? Sometimes new things come with old vendettas.

A deadly game of cat and mouse has made Adam realize someone sees him as the cheese. And that same someone is setting a trap that could put an end to Adam’s love life issues…once and for all.

Music throbbed on the air like an audible sex act…no doubt tightening the sexual core of every living being in the place. A giant disco ball spun in dizzying circles high above the dance floor, sending fractured silver light around the room like elusive confetti.

It was a night filled with the promise of tomorrow. An evening taut with sensual innuendo. And as midnight pounded nearer with each bass beat of the music, lovers pressed ever closer, their lips a breath away in readiness for the intersection of one year with another. The moments sparkled with expectation…throbbed with promise.

And he was outside it all…lonely…immensely sad…and feeling aggressive in his aloneness. Still, he anticipated the new year like everybody else, determined to make the changes necessary to get what he wanted…needed…in his life. He viewed it as his pivot point. It was the moment when he got his life in order. And he was willing to do whatever it took to make the pivot happen.

Anything at all.

His gaze slipped toward the long, padded benches along the wall. To the figure standing just beyond the spray of silver light. He watched as the lean, muscular form straightened away from the wall, the dark head lifting to observe the swirling silver globe in anticipation of its descent.

He stared, licking suddenly dry lips. He was so close to happiness. All he needed to do was reach for it. And he was determined that he would make that reach. He was thirty seconds from embracing his destiny.

With that thought pulsing inside his mind, he pushed away from the bar and stalked toward the lone figure on the edges of the festivities, shoving a path through the mindless masses to get to him. The man he loved more than life itself.

His future.

Have a SEXY Saturday, at the Hop!

Tuesday Taste – Discordant Lights – Available Now!

When Chaos rules, only the fiercest love survives.

Bright City is growing increasingly discordant. Something dark and treacherous is stalking Rabb and Brant, creating havoc in both of their worlds. The Vampire Council is putting pressure on Brant to become an elder, using Rabb as bait to force him to comply. All the while, Rabb battles deadly fractures in pack alliances and fights his own personal vampire skirmish.

Will the packs fight an internal war to replace Rabb? Will the vampires force Brant to choose sides? War is on the horizon, and it might not only ravage the supes in Bright City, but also devastate the human population living ignorant and helpless among them.

Brant stood on the stone patio of the mayor’s mansion and looked up at the stars. He held a warmed glass of pig’s blood in his hand and his thoughts were scattered, filled with all the problems he needed to resolve.

The moon was full and bright, casting a warm glow over the rolling, wooded grounds. Beyond the light, moving silently through the shadows, Rabb’s men were on constant watch for trouble.

Trouble was something he and Rabb had in abundance. And it was coming from so many different directions, it was hard to focus on any one issue long enough to solve it.

Foremost on his mind was Rabb. Despite agreeing to join the council to protect his lover, Brant didn’t trust the vamps to keep their word. He’d witnessed too many broken off conversations…too many glances across space when the council discussed relations with the shifter community.

The members of the council were up to something.

A soft whistle throbbed on the night and Brant’s gaze slid toward the sound, his senses sharpening. He focused his preternatural vision in the direction of the sound and the shadows brightened, showing…nothing.

No guard, no intruder.

Brant settled his glass onto the table and started forward, his built-in alarm system screaming. He sharpened his hearing as he approached the spot where the guard should have been. The dull thud, thud, thud of a laboring heartbeat filled his hearing. Hard on the heels of that damaged heartbeat was the sweet, metallic aroma of freshly spilled blood.

Brant’s pulse picked up, his fingernails lengthening to claws as his vamp came out in a big way. His cock twitched as the blood trail summoned him closer and all sense of caution slipped away.

Gone was cautious, thoughtful humanity. Brant became the predator searching for his next meal.

He stepped under the trees and saw the telltale glistening of blood on the grass. The aroma beckoned him…drawing him forward even as a tiny portion of his mind screamed for him to stop and retreat.

He slammed the door closed on that bit of conscious thought and dropped to his knees on the grass, inch-long fangs dripping saliva as he opened his mouth to growl his need.

A low groan had his head whipping around and he shot to his feet, his preternatural gaze sliding upward. A large body hung, limp and bleeding, over a high branch. The wind shifted the smaller branches around the injured man and the moon showed through. The silvery light wrapped the bleeding shifter in an aura, making him appear to glow.

Brant growled again, his claws digging holes in his palms as a small part of him screamed in warning. The shifter might as well have been wearing a neon sign with Brant’s name on it. His blood was a drug Brant found impossible to resist.

Yet, Brant had just enough humanity left to let a single thought slide in to nudge aside the ravening need.

Someone had set a trap for him.

Monday Musings – Watching Characters Evolve

No, this isn’t an article for authors about how to “grow” your characters in a series. This is about enjoying the evolution of your favorite characters as a reader. That’s really at the heart of serialized reading, isn’t it? It’s the reason we enjoy reading a series, or watching one on TV. We enjoy the process of getting to know a character better with each episode…watching them turn from unknown entities to virtual friends (or enemies!). It’s a journey of connection, not to a flesh and blood person, but to something almost more powerful, an idealized image of a flesh and blood person. When that ideal gains depth…humanity…it’s a truly engaging reading experience…because every detail added to their personality brings them more and more off the pages and into the reader’s heart and home.

This concept is on my mind right now because I’m about to release the first Christmas novella for my popular Hoale Construction Mystery series. In Oh! Hoaley Night!, the main characters reach a new level of understanding about themselves and the people they care about, and it changes them in measurable ways. Along with a great mystery to solve, the reader gets a glimpse into Adam’s life, the things that shaped him into the man he is today, and subsequently has a front row seat to watch Adam grow as a person, a lover, and a son.  As a bonus, we also get to witness Adam and Dirk’s relationship deepening, as they return to the place where it all began for them and face old insecurities and new revelations. Adam and Dirk emerge from the pages of this book more human…more sympathetic… because they’ve faced some hard truths about themselves and learned to hold onto each other when things get tough. It was an enlightening book to write and I hope it will be a fascinating book to read. We’ll find out in a few days, as Oh! Hoaley Night! releases on November 22nd!

Sometimes going home is clarifying. Sometimes it’s just plain deadly!

Adam travels to Candlelight, Indiana to visit his parents for Christmas. When he arrives he discovers somebody has killed a man and dumped him in the manger of the living crèche at the local church. Unfortunately, all signs lead back to Adam’s father as the murderer. A sheriff with a grudge and a small town more interested in gossip than reality, convince Adam that it will be up to him and the gang to clear his father’s name.

Intergalactic intrigue, sizzling sexual tension, and a giant snake shifter to be vanquished. Things are never dull.

Enjoying much-deserved R&R on the black sand beaches of the ruling Authority’s planet Enitrus, Cliff Blood is not happy when his brother Matt and his lover Rum show up to spoil his vacay with bad news. It seems Brand Lotus, evil snake-villain with a plan to take over Earth by force, has been discovered heading back to Earth and he’s targeting the Bloods’ favorite cops.

Problem is, the Blood boys aren’t going to make it back to Earth before Lotus gets there, so Littlejohn and Petra have to fend for themselves, while negotiating a new development in their relationship that already has them slightly off-balance.

The air smelled like flowers, and the place where she rested was cool and quiet. Her limbs felt unnaturally heavy and her eyes seemed stuck closed. Petra lay there for a long moment, afraid she was dead. On some level she realized the thought should be terrifying, but she appeared unable to work up any fear. A curious calm had settled over her.

After a moment she became aware of a strange whirring sound that accompanied each burst of flower-scented air. Her mind cast around for something familiar to tie the sound to. Nothing surfaced.

“She’s awake.”

Petra jumped slightly, her eyelids quivering at the unfamiliar voice. It was tinny, like it came from a long way away. A cool breeze slipped across her cheeks and something soft touched her skin.

“Come on, beauty. Open those pretty eyes.”

Petra reached up and rubbed her face where the touch had tickled it. She managed to crank her eyes open enough to see that she was in some kind of garden, surrounded by green plants and flowers. The sunlight stung and her lids snapped shut again.

“Lower the light, Blossom.”

Petra frowned. How did one lower the sunlight? Filled with curiosity about the voice, she fought to open her lids again. A large bug buzzed by her nose and she lifted a hand toward it.

“Hey! Watch out, beauty. You almost clipped my wing there.”

Petra’s eyes opened wide and focused on the tiny man hovering before her on the air, dragon-fly-like wings beating wildly. He was dressed all in green, with a mop of red hair that fell into his eyes. His tiny face was handsome despite the glare, and his arms were crossed over his chest in annoyance. “I’m…” Her voice croaked and she coughed. Her throat felt like it was filled with sand. “I’m sorry. I thought you were a bug.”

The glare deepened and a leather-clad toe tapped the air. “And that’s supposed to make me feel better.”

Petra suddenly realized what she was seeing before her eyes. “You’re a fairy.”

Tiny red eyebrows lifted, disappearing beneath the mop of red. “Beauty and brains. I’m impressed.”

Petra licked her dry lips. “I’m smart enough to know sarcasm when I hear it.”

The fairy’s glare finally disappeared, replaced by a wide smile. The smile looked very natural there. “Okay, I’ll forgive you. I’m sure you’re disoriented from your healing.” He surged forward, going horizontal and hovering inches from her face so he could look into her eyes. “Just watch those hands while you’re down here. Not everybody’s thrilled to have giants in our midst.”

Petra frowned. Giants? But the little fairy buzzed away, quick as a blink, and Petra was left with a hundred questions on the tip of her tongue and nobody to ask. First things first, she decided. She needed to figure out where she was. Petra pushed herself into a sitting position and looked around. She’d been lying in the center of a circular patch of dark green grass. Lush and blemish-free, the grassy area was surrounded by bushes of the deepest green, which were densely covered in flowers as big as her hand. The blossoms represented all the colors of the rainbow.

She realized she wasn’t lying under the sun as she’d first assumed. The walls around her were covered in vines with wide, triangular leaves, whose veins were a deep red color, like blood. She tilted her head and looked up, up, up to a circle of glass that was heavily etched with some kind of hieroglyphic symbols.

“A ward to keep evil and humans out. I’m told.”

Petra jumped at the sound of Littlejohn’s voice, right behind her. She slapped a hand over her chest and twisted around to glare at him. “You scared the shit out of me. Where did you come from, anyway?”

Littlejohn’s handsome face was pinched, and dark circles stained the area beneath his eyes. “I went to get these.” He handed her a small, white plate covered in something that looked like pink crackers. “Fairy bread. It doesn’t look like much but it packs quite a punch.” His smile was weary.

She took one of the dishes from him, looking around. “Where are we?”

“The fairy mound.”

“Seriously?” Petra laughed. “I can’t believe you lowered yourself –”

“Shhh! For God’s sake. Don’t piss them off. They appear to be highly sensitive, and when you make them mad those wings buzz so loud it takes an hour for your eardrums to return to normal.”

Petra smiled. “You’re afraid of a bunch of fairies?”

He arched an eyebrow. “You’ve met Rum, right? Think thousands of Rums.”

She blinked and then nodded, lowering her voice. “I see your point.”

A low growl was all the warning she got.

He grabbed her wrist and yanked her around, pulling her against his long, hard body with a firm but gentle tug. She gasped as her breasts smacked up against his chest and looked up, feeling the first thin ribbon of fear as his growl deepened, finally turning to words. “You know damn well that was a hell of a lot more than a simple kiss, Pet.”

She swallowed, licking her suddenly dry lips. “What was it then? Tell me, Littlejohn.”

His gaze devoured her face, his hips arching to press a monumental hard-on into her belly. He lifted a hand to skim super-heated fingers over her bottom lip, tugging it down as his gaze locked on, his chest still rumbling under a growl. “It was life-changing. It was…” he lowered his head until his breath fanned her face with sweet heat. “It was terrifying and addictive.” His lips touched hers, lightly, oh-so-lightly, but the impact of that feathery touch slammed through her, turning her muscles to jelly.

Littlejohn tightened his arm around her waist when her knees gave out, holding her against his delicious length. “And I never wanted it to stop.” He lowered his lips to hers and groaned as she lifted her arms, twining them around his neck and giving herself over completely to the kiss.

Awareness blasted through her. His taste, his scent, the feel of his smooth, iron muscles under her splayed fingers, it all combined to overwhelm her senses and send her spiraling into ravenous need. Her sexual core tightened, pulsing hungrily, and her mind shut down as his hand slipped from her waist to encompass her ass, pulling her even more tightly against the long, thick ridge of flesh beneath the flimsy boxers.

Petra thought she might combust. Heat flared through her, firing her skin and making her pussy throb from the rush of blood. She wrapped her legs around his waist and let him hold her off the ground as she tilted her head and deepened the kiss, her tongue sliding hungrily against his and her hands painting his skin in bold strokes.

Hump Day Humps – SIZZLED!

SizzledCoverFinalWarning! SIZZLING M/M Excerpt!

Heat pounded down onto the black sand, radiating up to put a sexy sheen over Falen’s golden skin. The vibrant ball of light in the sky painted golden highlights in the Marshal’s wavy, auburn hair and brought out a sexy spray of freckles on his skin. Cliff’s fingertips nearly sizzled from the heat his lover was putting off as he rubbed him down. Despite his relaxed posture, Falen’s muscles quivered under Cliff’s hands, taut with expectation. His big hands clutched the edges of his over-sized towel, his toes dug into the dense, heated sand.

Cliff skimmed his palm down Falen’s long, lean back, sliding it over the golden mounds of his lover’s perfect, naked buttocks. Falen sucked in a breath as Cliff’s fingers slipped into the delicious valley between them. The towel tore under his grip.

Cliff smiled, his hand sliding even deeper, to cup the warm sac between Falen’s legs.

The Marshal widened his legs, giving Cliff room to play. Cliff moved between those strong legs, his hands skimming out of the inviting crack to glide across muscular thighs.

“You’re killin’ me, Blood.”

Cliff’s chuckle was husky with prolonged need. “I’m killing myself.” He reached down to stroke his rock-hard dick, groaning softly at the delicious wave of pleasure that spun through him.

Falen stirred, lifting his head to grin over his shoulder. “I can help you with that.” He lifted to his knees and spread his legs farther, exposing the rock-hard heft of his big cock hanging between them. Cliff took a deep breath, grabbing the sunscreen from the sand and coating his fingertips with it. He slathered the enticing pucker Falen had opened to him with the sweet-smelling lotion and slipped a finger deep.
