I started a new tradition a few years ago, when I began hosting Christmas at my house the weekend before the actual day. For one or two nights, my family gathers together at our little cabin in the woods and we play, eat, laugh, eat again, open gifts, eat some more, and enjoy being together. #:0) We play basketball or broom ball on the frozen pond, put together a jigsaw puzzle (a family tradition), watch cheesy Christmas movies, and laugh together. For a couple of precious days, we have the time to unwind, visit, take long walks and play together. Although this event represents a significant amount of work to prepare for, I really look forward to spending quality time with my family that we don’t really have any other time of the year and I cherish the memories we’re building.

When I’m not hosting family during the holidays, I love to snuggle up in front of the fire with a great book. There are always so many great books to choose from, but I have my favorite authors. This year I’m looking forward to reading books from two of them: Josh Lanyon’s, I Spy Something Christmas and L.B. Gregg’s Mistletoe at Midnight.

Sometimes going home is clarifying. Sometimes it’s just plain deadly!

Adam travels to Candlelight, Indiana to visit his parents for Christmas. When he arrives he discovers somebody has killed a man and dumped him in the manger of the living crèche at the local church. Unfortunately, all signs lead back to Adam’s father as the murderer. A Sheriff with a grudge and a small town more interested in gossip than reality, convince Adam that it will be up to him and the gang to clear his father’s name.

  1. I like to make my special pumpkin chocolate cookies, which I have adapted to be vegan and gluten-free so everyone can eat!

    • My favorite memory is of walking out on Christmas morning and seeing all those brightly wrapped presents under the tree. So pretty and such anticipation. I don’t think you ever get too old for that pleasure!

  2. My favorite tradition is taking my kids to their great Aunt’s and making a rice krispies train with her! (my 3 year old is train obsessed)

  3. My family tradition is having a Christmas Eve party at my moms house where we play dirty santa, watch The Christmas Story movie, and exchange gifts. 🎄🎁

    • Me too, Dovile! I always think I have way too much stuff when we pull our Christmas decos out every year but by the time I put everything where it belongs I think I need more! LOL

  4. My favorite Christmas Tradition is a Christmas-Eve Dinner. Since I was a small child we have had Fondue which consists on beef cut into small pieces and everyone gets their own small bowl of meat to cook in the pot. Dinner usually takes about 3 hours because you have to cook each piece of meat one piece at a time. The funniest thing is that if your meat falls off your fork in the pot you have to kiss everyone at the table of the opposite sex on the check. My family has been doing this since I was a child and I am 50 years old. I have 4 siblings and including their kids and the grandchildren it can be quit the night, but we all love it. I think it is the best quality time we all spend together all year. We talk and laugh and the spirit of Christmas really comes alive not to mention the love of being with family. After dinner we open one present each, one person at a time. We have a large family and the night is can be very long. After the present opening we go to Midnight mass together. That is our Christmas Tradition.

  5. There’s no big tradition at my house. Everyone flies home or drives so we can all have a nice dinner and night together.

    • I do the same thing, Elizabeth. One of our absolute favorite Christmas cookies are buckeyes, peanut butter and rice cereal balls dipped in chocolate. They came from my Grandma on my mom’s side. She’s been gone for years but every Christmas i feel she’s still with us in spirit because of those cookies!

  6. Happy Holidays! I continue a tradition that my mother started about 20 years ago. Since she passed away, I now write rthe family Christmas newsletter each year. We have a combined 3 families and my step sister and I keep track of all the highs and lows of each family and I put it in the newsletter. Since our family is spread out all across the US, the newsletter lets everyone know how the rest of the family is doing.
Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win.

  8. My favorite holiday tradition is opening one gift on Christmas Eve. Also, ever since I could read I was the one in the family to hand out gifts. I think it probably used to be because I was the youngest, but even now that I have young nephews I am still the present-dispenser. 🙂

    Happy holidays!

  9. Every Christmas morning, we gather at my sister’s house because she has a big house and we open all our presents together. Then we have lunch!

  10. I love to bake cookies with my boys for Santa and just spending time together during the break! Thank you! msanderson79 at yahoo dot com

  11. My favorite family holiday tradition is getting all dressed up and going to a nice restaurant for brunch. Then going back to the hotel, opening presents, and watching the basketball games on TV. Unless the Blazers are playing a home game, then we will all be at the stadium cheering on the team together. Happy holidays! Thanks, allyswanson@hotmail.com.

  12. One tradition is to leave cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer, on Christmas Eve. We also have a “Santa Key” on a rope that is hung outside of the house; we have no chimney so this way Santa can get in and leave the presents 🙂 sarahpluto222@gmail.com

  13. We go driving around the different neighborhoods to look at all the Christmas lights displays. Always a lot of “oohing” and “aahing” over them!
